Unreliable

I am not a reliable recorder of the way things used to be

I am not a reliable source of information about you and me

I can't remember the hows and the whys -

How you cut me or why I cried

All I remember is the look in your eyes -

And my surprise.

I am not a reliable person when it comes to getting down to facts

    brass tacks!

I get all the events and the people and the places confused

    so lax!

Can't remember what went before -

What I ate or what you wore

All I remember is the slamming door -

And the sound of my heart as it hit the floor

He said, she said, it all goes out of my head

I dream of you and wake alone in my bed

You said forever with a gleam in your eye

And then you said goodbye

You are not a reliable person when it comes down to the follow through

You don't like it when the pieces of the puzzled don't fit like they're supposed to do

It don't work out in the end -

Clear the board and start again -

Find yourself a brand new friend -

    the end...

He said, she said, it all goes out of my head

I dream of you and wake alone in my bed

You said forever with a gleam in your eye

And then you said goodbye

I am not a reliable person when it comes to singing love's sweet song

No matter how hard I try all the words just seem to come out wrong,

    so wrong -

Time to drop this heavy load

Pack my bags and hit the road

Spread these golden wings and fly

    bye-bye...

Coming and Going

by Eileen Tipping

I'm always saying I'm sorry

You're always saying "That's OK"

I'm always hoping your love will change me

You're always saying it will someday

You're always coming and going

I'm always wishing you'd stay

I'm always reaching out to touch you

You're always just a breath away

You're always just a breath away

I always said it was easy

You always said it just looks that way

I always told you that life was a game

You said someday I'd learn how to play

You're always coming and going...

I climb the mountain and slide back down

Spinning my wheels, can't seem to make any ground

Trying so hard to keep my eyes on the prize

When all I really want to do

Is take a long cool drink of your eyes

Someday I'll make you a garden

Between the night and the first of day

So full of roses and sun and love

You'll come and you'll never go away

You're always coming and going...

This Old Man

This old man, he played one

Found himself a corner in the sun

With a knick-knack paddy-whack a place to call his own

This old man came rolling home

This old man he played two

Crickets sing a lullaby when day is through

With a knick-knack paddy-whack feed the dog a bone

This old man came rolling home

This old man he was free

A little bit of paradise under the trees

This old man he got by

Like the sun and the moon and the stars in the skies

This old man he played three

Didn’t know the price you pay for being free

With a knick-knack paddy-whack when all the birds had flown

This old man came home alone.

This old man he played five

Picked up the whiskey jug and drained it dry

With a knick-knack paddy-whack aching to the bone

This old man he cried alone.

This old man he played eight

Locked up the door and he shut the gate

With a knick-knack paddy-whack the sun it never shone

This old man he cried at home.

This old man never knew

What it would take to get him through

This old man couldn’t stay

So one day he up and he flew away ...

This old man he played ten

Lost his way and couldn’t get back home again

With a knick-knack paddy-whack wherever he may roam

He’ll dream the dreams of Home Sweet Home.

He’ll dream the dreams of Home Sweet Home.
